The incredible story of the most beloved Greek restaurant in the South

Gyrosteria Yannis won the Just Eat Award for the second time in the “Best Restaurant in Southern Italy & Islands” category. We asked the owner what the secret to his success is. Here’s what he told us.

 

Everyone has been talking about Gyrosteria Yannis a bit recently. It is a Greek restaurant in Bari, with locations in via Re Manfredi 22 and in via Nicolai 22, which in a large (140 seats inside and outside for the first, around seventy for the second) and carefree environment of a classic Hellenic tavern brings together a huge menu (which also includes vegetarian and vegan dishes) various typical specialities, not just the most mainstream. For the second time it won the award in the “Best restaurant in Southern Italy & Islands – Large cities” section in the fourth edition of the Just Eat Awards, the annual championship where the well-known delivery platform awards recognition to partner restaurants that have distinguished themselves in the respective categories (the others are Best innovative restaurant, Best eco-sustainable restaurant, Best female restaurant, Best restaurants by type of cuisine). The list of candidates is selected by an independent jury whose criteria include the level of user satisfaction, some commercial indicators of the partner restaurant and the motivation expressed by the restaurants themselves. But the final judgment is up to the customers’ vote. «It is the second time we have won this award. Every year the platform establishes a prize for the most reviewed restaurant, and Gyrosteria has over 6 thousand reviews to its credit” declared Gianni Martino, one of the three owners, to Corriere del Mezzogiorno on the occasion. «But we don’t just work with Just Eat. All channels are open with us, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, a dedicated app as well as Deliveroo and Glovo. The latter had also asked us for a partnership, but they employ their own riders, while I am firm on the fact that the person who delivers is my employee, whether by car or motorbike, is part of the staff and is trained specifically. Only in this way can we follow the customer step by step and promptly remedy any inevitable failures” he told us when we asked him the secret to the success of Gyrosteria Yannis.
